Today I had originally scheduled my June Favorites post, since it’s the first of the month, but I just didn’t feel right going with it since my home country of the United States is on fire.
We were still reeling from the murder of Ahmaud Arbery when George Floyd’s horrific murder by police was shown for the world to see. Since then, cities have erupted in uprisings in response to decades of unchecked police aggression against Black and brown people and centuries of institutionalized racism.
Please do not respond to this with anything along the lines of “but, riots…” No. Just no.
I don’t condone violence or harm of property. But property can be replaced, human lives can’t. There are people right now angrier about Target being on fire than the countless names we’ve been informed about being extrajudicially murdered.
American police killed over 1,000 people in 2019. That’s an average of 3 per day. This number should horrify everyone, especially in light of the fact that the US is far, far worse about this than essentially every other developed country.
The time for action has long since passed. We can’t undo the past, but we have control over our actions going forward, and the simple fact is that we can absolutely no longer be silent or complacent when our Black brothers and sisters (and non-binary folx too) are being brutalized with virtually no consequences for the police and little recourse for their families and loved ones.
The following is a list of various funds that are helping the cause. As of this writing the Minnesota Freedom Fund has asked that you donate to other funds as they’ve been getting a wonderfully positive response with donations but I’m including them just the same.
Please donate to any or all of these funds, as I have. This is the first step. Taking it upon yourself to educate yourself on how to be anti-racist is the next.

Please share and signal boost this information to anyone and everyone. I know money is tight for a lot of people right now, but at the same time a $5 donation even could make a world of difference here.
